Description
Shure SM7B cardioid dynamic broadcast microphone rear view showing yoke mount and XLR connector

The Mic That Makes a Bad Room Sound Like It Doesn't Exist

Most people buying their first serious microphone have one problem they don't fully understand yet: their room. Parallel walls, hard floors, an HVAC unit running somewhere, the hum of a monitor screen two feet away. A condenser mic picks all of it up and puts it in your recording. The SM7B doesn't.

The cardioid polar pattern focuses tightly on what's directly in front of it and rejects everything coming from the sides and rear. The internal air-suspension shock isolator kills mechanical vibration before it reaches the capsule. The electromagnetic shielding is specifically designed for the noise profile of computer monitors, LED lighting, and other studio electronics that plague desktop recording setups. The internal pop filter handles plosives without a spider of foam on a clip arm between you and your microphone. You get clean voice recordings from imperfect rooms because the SM7B was engineered specifically for that situation, and it has been proving it in broadcast studios, home setups, and professional vocal booths for over two decades.

Three Sounds in One Microphone, All Dialed In Without Software

The SM7B ships with two recessed response selector switches on the rear panel. Left switch down gives you bass rolloff, cutting below 400 Hz to pull out room rumble, desk vibration, and low-frequency hum from HVAC. Right switch up gives you mid-range presence boost, adding roughly 3 dB between 2 and 4 kHz for a brighter, forward vocal character that cuts through a mix. Both switches together combines the two. All three variations are genuinely useful and genuinely different, covering everything from warm narration to punchy podcast voice to broadcast news delivery.

The included A7WS close-talk windscreen goes over the standard foam and adds warmth and proximity while reducing plosive energy further for anyone recording lips-to-mic. The yoke mount with captive stand nut locks to any standard 5/8-inch thread securely without tools. This is a microphone that was built to spend its life in daily professional use, and the construction reflects that. Dark gray enamel aluminum and steel housing. 1 lb 11 oz of dense, road-ready build quality.

One Thing to Know Before You Buy: The SM7B Needs Clean Gain

The SM7B has a sensitivity rating of -59 dBV/Pa. That is a low-output dynamic microphone. Shure's own documentation states it requires at least 60 dB of clean gain at the preamp for typical speech applications. Most entry-level and mid-tier audio interfaces top out at 40 to 50 dB of gain, which means you will reach the top of the gain knob and still not have enough level, or worse, you will have enough level but with noise floor riding right alongside it.

There are two clean solutions. A dedicated high-gain preamp handles it at the interface level. An inline microphone booster, like a Cloudlifter, sits between the SM7B and your existing interface and adds up to 25 dB of clean, transparent gain using phantom power, so your preamp never has to work near its noise floor. If you are pairing the SM7B with a standard interface, a Cloudlifter is not optional equipment. It is the rest of the signal chain.

  • If your item is on backorder or unavailable, the pre-authorization will be voided and you will be notified by email.

  • Please note: While most items ship out within 1–2 business days, total delivery time is typically 3–5 business days, depending on your location and carrier handling.

Order Shipment

If your item is in stock and your payment has been processed, your order will typically ship within 1–2 business days. Total delivery time is approximately 3–5 business days from the date of order. Once shipped, you will receive tracking information at the email address provided during checkout within 24 hours of dispatch.

If you have not received tracking information within 3–5 business days of placing your order, please contact us at support@proaudioreserve.com.

The Distributor-Direct Advantage

To ensure you receive the most recent hardware revisions and 100% factory-sealed units, Pro Audio Reserve utilizes a Distributor-Direct fulfillment model. Unlike big-box retailers that may ship "floor models" or gear that has been sitting in general-purpose warehouses, your equipment is pulled directly from the primary manufacturer hub, serialized, and dispatched. This process ensures the highest level of quality control for professional-grade recording equipment.

Shipping Policy

We currently offer free shipping within the United States only. If the checkout process on our website allows you to enter a shipping address and complete your order, your location is eligible to receive delivery.

Changing Shipping Address

If you need to change your shipping address after your order has been processed or shipped, we will do our best to accommodate the request. Please note that address changes may result in delivery delays. Any additional costs incurred due to address changes, including carrier fees or rerouting charges will be the responsibility of the customer. No exceptions.

Shipping Times

All shipping times provided are estimates and should not be considered guarantees. Most orders ship out within 1–2 business days from the time payment is processed. However, total delivery time is typically 3–5 business days, depending on your location, carrier performance, and supplier fulfillment timelines.

We work closely with our vendors to ensure timely deliveries, but please note that supply chain disruptions, high-demand periods, or weather events may occasionally cause delays beyond our control.

  • To avoid misunderstandings: The “shipping time” refers to the total time from order placement to final delivery, not just when the item leaves the warehouse.

  • Cancellations: If you choose to cancel your order because it has not arrived within the estimated delivery window, you may be responsible for applicable shipping charges, restocking fees, warehouse handling costs, and other related fees.

  • Chargebacks: Customers who initiate chargebacks due to shipping delays without contacting us first may be held legally responsible for losses. We strongly encourage open communication so we can resolve any delivery concerns directly and efficiently via our Atlanta-based support team.

Delivery Options

  • Threshold Shipping: Your item will be delivered to your front door, porch, garage, or a covered entryway.
