Kahayan 12K72 Overview

Kahayan 12K72 mono microphone preamp front panel

The 1272 Sound — Built the Way It Was Meant to Be Built

The Neve 1272 is one of the most revered mic preamp circuits ever designed. Deep, authoritative bass. Treble that's natural and open rather than hyped or aggressive. A transparency that makes every source sound more like itself — just bigger and more present. The Kahayan 12K72 is built around that same topology, running pure Class A from input to output with Carnhill transformers and discrete components throughout. No integrated circuits. No shortcuts.

Every part inside — the wires, rotary switches, capacitors, resistors, and connectors — was sourced from the same manufacturers that originally supplied components for the circuits that inspired this design. This isn't reverse-engineered approximation. It's the real topology, built with real materials, the way it was always supposed to sound.

As an authorized dealer, Pro Audio Reserve ensures your Kahayan 12K72 is genuine, backed by full manufacturer warranty and support.

Kahayan 12K72 rackmount Class A mic preamp studio setup

Two Stages. Total Tonal Control.

The 12K72 runs two gain stages with independent control over each. The first stage is governed by the Gain control in 5dB steps — setting the initial amplification and transformer character. The Output control in 1dB steps then regulates how much signal passes from the first stage into the second, functioning exactly like a console fader. Drive the first stage hard for transformer saturation, then pull the output back to a workable level — or run both in balance for the cleanest possible capture.

This two-stage architecture is what makes the 12K72 as useful in mastering and mix bus processing as it is for tracking. In line mode, it becomes a powerful tool for adding transformer weight and Class A character to pre-recorded material without altering the fundamental dynamics of the source.

Kahayan 12K72 rear panel XLR and 1/4 inch I/O connections

Every Input You Need — Balanced, Unbalanced, and Hi-Z

A balanced XLR mic input handles your microphones with full transformer coupling, while the front-panel 1/4" Hi-Z input accepts guitars, bass, synths, and any high-impedance instrument directly — running through the same Class A circuit and Carnhill transformers for a DI tone with real character and depth.

Both balanced XLR and unbalanced 1/4" outputs give you the flexibility to integrate the 12K72 into any signal chain. 48V phantom power with indicator light, phase reverse, and mic/line switching round out a feature set that covers every scenario a working session will throw at a single-channel preamp.

Highlights

  • Single-channel Neve 1272-inspired pure Class A preamp with Carnhill transformers — no ICs anywhere in the signal path
  • Stepped Gain control in 5dB increments and Output level control in 1dB steps for precise two-stage shaping
  • Line mode makes it an effective mastering and mix bus processor for adding transformer character to pre-recorded tracks
  • Front-panel Hi-Z instrument input for Class A DI recording of guitar, bass, and synth
  • Balanced XLR and unbalanced 1/4" I/O, 48V phantom power, phase reverse, and mic/line switching

  • If your item is on backorder or unavailable, the pre-authorization will be voided and you will be notified by email.

  • Please note: While most items ship out within 1–2 business days, total delivery time is typically 3–5 business days, depending on your location and carrier handling.

Order Shipment

If your item is in stock and your payment has been processed, your order will typically ship within 1–2 business days. Total delivery time is approximately 3–5 business days from the date of order. Once shipped, you will receive tracking information at the email address provided during checkout within 24 hours of dispatch.

If you have not received tracking information within 3–5 business days of placing your order, please contact us at support@proaudioreserve.com.

The Distributor-Direct Advantage

To ensure you receive the most recent hardware revisions and 100% factory-sealed units, Pro Audio Reserve utilizes a Distributor-Direct fulfillment model. Unlike big-box retailers that may ship "floor models" or gear that has been sitting in general-purpose warehouses, your equipment is pulled directly from the primary manufacturer hub, serialized, and dispatched. This process ensures the highest level of quality control for professional-grade recording equipment.

Shipping Policy

We currently offer free shipping within the United States only. If the checkout process on our website allows you to enter a shipping address and complete your order, your location is eligible to receive delivery.

Changing Shipping Address

If you need to change your shipping address after your order has been processed or shipped, we will do our best to accommodate the request. Please note that address changes may result in delivery delays. Any additional costs incurred due to address changes, including carrier fees or rerouting charges will be the responsibility of the customer. No exceptions.

Shipping Times

All shipping times provided are estimates and should not be considered guarantees. Most orders ship out within 1–2 business days from the time payment is processed. However, total delivery time is typically 3–5 business days, depending on your location, carrier performance, and supplier fulfillment timelines.

We work closely with our vendors to ensure timely deliveries, but please note that supply chain disruptions, high-demand periods, or weather events may occasionally cause delays beyond our control.

  • To avoid misunderstandings: The “shipping time” refers to the total time from order placement to final delivery, not just when the item leaves the warehouse.

  • Cancellations: If you choose to cancel your order because it has not arrived within the estimated delivery window, you may be responsible for applicable shipping charges, restocking fees, warehouse handling costs, and other related fees.

  • Chargebacks: Customers who initiate chargebacks due to shipping delays without contacting us first may be held legally responsible for losses. We strongly encourage open communication so we can resolve any delivery concerns directly and efficiently via our Atlanta-based support team.

Delivery Options

  • Threshold Shipping: Your item will be delivered to your front door, porch, garage, or a covered entryway.
