Empirical Labs ELI TwinPak MIKE-E Pair Dual Channel Microphone Preamp

Empirical Labs MIKE-E TwinPak Overview

Empirical Labs ELI TwinPak MIKE-E pair dual channel preamp

Matched Dual Channel Performance

The Empirical Labs ELI TwinPak delivers two complete MIKE-E microphone preamps, each featuring transformer-coupled inputs with digitally controlled gain in precise 5 dB increments. This digital control ensures complete repeatability without the drift or inconsistency that can occur with traditional potentiometers over time.

With a signal-to-noise ratio of 130 dB at 40 dB gain and maximum output capability of +28 dBu, each MIKE-E channel maintains exceptional headroom and clarity. The noise floor sits far below the self-noise of most studio microphones, allowing the preamp to act as a straight wire with gain until you engage the CompSat™ processing.

Empirical Labs TwinPak CompSat compression and saturation controls

CompSat™ Circuit With Stereo Linking

Each MIKE-E in the TwinPak features Empirical Labs' proprietary CompSat™ section, combining Distressor-inspired compression with multi-stage saturation circuits. The compressor offers five distinct ratios including the legendary Nuke setting, with absolutely repeatable attack and release time constants controlled by the Drive knob.

The two CompSat™ sections can be linked for true stereo operation, maintaining perfect phase coherence and gain matching across both channels. A built-in parallel mix control on each unit allows you to blend wet and dry signals without dedicating additional mixer channels or requiring external routing.

Empirical Labs TwinPak MIKE-E saturation and emphasis circuits

Saturator and Emphasis Circuits for Tonal Shaping

Beyond compression, the CompSat™ section on each MIKE-E includes a multi-stage soft clipping Saturator circuit that imparts odd and even order harmonic distortions similar to triode tube circuits. As levels increase, a secondary germanium transistor clipping stage flattens peaks more aggressively, creating tonal textures unique to Empirical Labs designs.

The Emphasis circuit works like analog noise reduction, boosting and soft-clipping high frequencies before the CompSat™ stage, then cutting them afterward. This improves signal-to-noise ratio while creating a hotter, more emotionally compelling sound that sits naturally in dense mixes without harshness.

Highlights

  • Two complete MIKE-E microphone preamps in a matched pair configuration
  • Transformer-coupled inputs with digitally controlled stepped gain (5 dB increments)
  • Ultra-low noise floor: 130 dB signal-to-noise at 40 dB gain
  • Linkable CompSat™ circuits for true stereo compression and processing
  • Multi-stage saturation with triode-style harmonics and germanium clipping
  • Emphasis circuit for improved signal-to-noise and smooth high-frequency control
  • Dual high-quality DI inputs for stereo instrument tracking
  • Parallel mix controls on each channel for wet/dry blending
  • Five compression ratios including legendary Nuke mode

Order Shipment

If your item is in stock and your payment has been processed, your order will typically ship within 1–2 business days. Total delivery time is approximately 3–5 business days from the date of order. Once shipped, you will receive tracking information at the email address provided during checkout within 24 hours of dispatch.

The Distributor-Direct Advantage

To ensure you receive the most recent hardware revisions and 100% factory-sealed units, Pro Audio Reserve utilizes a Distributor-Direct fulfillment model. Unlike big-box retailers that may ship "floor models" or gear that has been sitting in general-purpose warehouses, your equipment is pulled directly from the primary manufacturer hub, serialized, and dispatched. This process ensures the highest level of quality control for professional-grade recording equipment.

Shipping Policy

We currently offer free shipping within the United States only. If the checkout process on our website allows you to enter a shipping address and complete your order, your location is eligible to receive delivery.

Changing Shipping Address

If you need to change your shipping address after your order has been processed or shipped, we will do our best to accommodate the request. Please note that address changes may result in delivery delays. Any additional costs incurred due to address changes, including carrier fees or rerouting charges will be the responsibility of the customer. No exceptions.

Shipping Times

All shipping times provided are estimates and should not be considered guarantees. Most orders ship out within 1–2 business days from the time payment is processed. However, total delivery time is typically 3–5 business days, depending on your location, carrier performance, and supplier fulfillment timelines.

We work closely with our vendors to ensure timely deliveries, but please note that supply chain disruptions, high-demand periods, or weather events may occasionally cause delays beyond our control.

  • To avoid misunderstandings: The “shipping time” refers to the total time from order placement to final delivery, not just when the item leaves the warehouse.

  • Cancellations: If you choose to cancel your order because it has not arrived within the estimated delivery window, you may be responsible for applicable shipping charges, restocking fees, warehouse handling costs, and other related fees.

  • Chargebacks: Customers who initiate chargebacks due to shipping delays without contacting us first may be held legally responsible for losses. We strongly encourage open communication so we can resolve any delivery concerns directly and efficiently via our Atlanta-based support team.

Delivery Options

  • Threshold Shipping: Your item will be delivered to your front door, porch, garage, or a covered entryway.
