Cloud Microphones Cloudlifter CL-2 Two-Channel Mic Activator

Cloud Microphones Cloudlifter CL-2 two-channel mic activator showing dual XLR inputs and outputs for stereo ribbon and dynamic microphone setups

Two Channels of Cloudlifter. One Clean Signal Chain.

Picture your stereo ribbon setup over a drum kit: two Royer 121s positioned in a blumlein pair, feeding a preamp that simply cannot deliver enough clean gain for both channels without the noise floor climbing into the room. Or your dual-host podcast with two SM7Bs, each fighting an interface pushed into its noisiest operating range. The fix in both cases is the same: more clean gain upstream, before any of those problems have a chance to develop.

The CL-2 puts two fully independent channels of the same patented Class-A discrete JFET circuitry that made the CL-1 the industry standard into a single compact enclosure. Both channels run identically, from the same circuit design to the same 3kΩ fixed impedance loading, which means a matched pair of microphones stays matched through the CL-2 with no introduced gain offset or tonal variance between channels. For stereo tracking, that consistency is not a nice-to-have. It's the whole point.

What the Circuit Does, and Why Two Channels in One Box Matters

The CL-2 is not two CL-1s stacked. It is two identical circuits sharing one chassis and one phantom power source, which has practical implications beyond convenience:

Channels: 2, fully independent (no shared gain staging or crosstalk between channels)
Gain per channel: Up to +25dB ultra-clean (with 5kΩ load)
Circuit design: Patented Class-A Discrete JFET, dual noise-canceling gain stages per channel
Input impedance: 3kΩ per channel, fixed (optimized for dynamic, ribbon, and tube mics)
Recommended load impedance: Greater than 5kΩ
Frequency response: 5 Hz to 80 kHz (-0.3 dB)
Phantom power: +48V required (P48, IEC 61938); phantom is not passed to either microphone
Current consumption: 3.1 mA
Inputs: 2x 3-pin Male XLR
Outputs: 2x 3-pin Female XLR

Running two separate CL-1s in a dual-mic setup means two power draws on two phantom supplies, two separate boxes to manage on a desk or stage, and the faint possibility of unit-to-unit variance. The CL-2 solves all three in a single connection point with one set of cables to manage and two channels that are circuit-identical by design.

Phantom Blocking for Both Channels, Every Time

The CL-2's phantom isolation works identically on both channels: +48V from the preamp powers the JFET circuit but never reaches either microphone. For engineers running a matched stereo pair of passive ribbon microphones, where one accidental phantom event can destroy both elements in a single moment, this is a non-negotiable feature. The CL-2 provides a permanent phantom firewall across both channels regardless of what happens on the preamp side of the connection.

In house of worship installs, theater productions, and broadcast environments where two low-output microphones share a signal chain and get handed off between operators with varying experience levels, the CL-2 adds another layer of protection that a single-channel unit simply cannot provide for both inputs simultaneously. One device, both mics covered, both phantom-blocked, both running clean.

Highlights

  • Two fully independent channels of up to +25dB ultra-clean gain for passive dynamic, ribbon, and tube microphones
  • Patented Class-A discrete JFET circuitry with dual noise-canceling gain stages per channel; circuit-identical channels for matched stereo performance
  • Fixed 3kΩ input impedance per channel, matched across both channels for stereo ribbon arrays, ORTF and blumlein pairs, and dual-host podcast setups
  • No gain offset or tonal variance between channels by design, making the CL-2 the preferred choice over two separate CL-1 units for stereo tracking
  • Phantom power (+48V) powers both JFET circuits simultaneously without passing phantom to either microphone, providing complete protection for passive ribbon and tube mics on both channels
  • Frequency response: 5 Hz to 80 kHz (-0.3 dB) per channel
  • Recommended load impedance: greater than 5kΩ per channel
  • Current consumption: 3.1 mA
  • Two 3-pin male XLR inputs, two 3-pin female XLR outputs
  • Compatible with passive dynamic, ribbon, tube, battery-powered, and power-supply-driven microphones on both channels independently
  • Suitable for house of worship, theater, broadcast, dual-host podcast, stereo acoustic tracking, and live two-mic stage setups
  • Drives stronger, cleaner signals over long XLR cable runs on both channels simultaneously
  • Rugged solid steel chassis in a compact form factor
  • Dimensions: 4.7" x 1.5" x 3.7" / Weight: 15.9 oz
  • Handcrafted on the Navajo Nation and in Tucson, Arizona, USA
  • Limited lifetime warranty with registration

Order Shipment

If your item is in stock and your payment has been processed, your order will typically ship within 1–2 business days. Total delivery time is approximately 3–5 business days from the date of order. Once shipped, you will receive tracking information at the email address provided during checkout within 24 hours of dispatch.

The Distributor-Direct Advantage

To ensure you receive the most recent hardware revisions and 100% factory-sealed units, Pro Audio Reserve utilizes a Distributor-Direct fulfillment model. Unlike big-box retailers that may ship "floor models" or gear that has been sitting in general-purpose warehouses, your equipment is pulled directly from the primary manufacturer hub, serialized, and dispatched. This process ensures the highest level of quality control for professional-grade recording equipment.

Shipping Policy

We currently offer free shipping within the United States only. If the checkout process on our website allows you to enter a shipping address and complete your order, your location is eligible to receive delivery.

Changing Shipping Address

If you need to change your shipping address after your order has been processed or shipped, we will do our best to accommodate the request. Please note that address changes may result in delivery delays. Any additional costs incurred due to address changes, including carrier fees or rerouting charges will be the responsibility of the customer. No exceptions.

Shipping Times

All shipping times provided are estimates and should not be considered guarantees. Most orders ship out within 1–2 business days from the time payment is processed. However, total delivery time is typically 3–5 business days, depending on your location, carrier performance, and supplier fulfillment timelines.

We work closely with our vendors to ensure timely deliveries, but please note that supply chain disruptions, high-demand periods, or weather events may occasionally cause delays beyond our control.

  • To avoid misunderstandings: The “shipping time” refers to the total time from order placement to final delivery, not just when the item leaves the warehouse.

  • Cancellations: If you choose to cancel your order because it has not arrived within the estimated delivery window, you may be responsible for applicable shipping charges, restocking fees, warehouse handling costs, and other related fees.

  • Chargebacks: Customers who initiate chargebacks due to shipping delays without contacting us first may be held legally responsible for losses. We strongly encourage open communication so we can resolve any delivery concerns directly and efficiently via our Atlanta-based support team.

Delivery Options

  • Threshold Shipping: Your item will be delivered to your front door, porch, garage, or a covered entryway.
