RME Babyface Pro FS: The Interface That Ends the Excuses

RME Babyface Pro FS top down view showing controls and I/O layout

Your Room Isn't the Problem. Your Interface Might Be.

Picture this: you've spent months dialing in your mix, but something still feels off. Not wrong exactly. Not quite professional either. That gap between what you're hearing and what you know you should be hearing? More often than not, it traces back to the very first link in your signal chain.

The RME Babyface Pro FS is built for the engineer who's done settling. It delivers the same femtosecond-accurate SteadyClock FS clocking found in RME's flagship ADI-2 Pro, the same headphone amplifier technology, and preamps with a 76 dB gain range (1 dB at a time) into a bus-powered aluminum chassis that weighs less than your lunch. This is a studio-grade signal chain that fits in a backpack. And it works flawlessly every time you open your DAW.

Every Connection You Need. Nothing You Don't.

The Babyface Pro FS covers a serious I/O footprint for its size. Two XLR combo mic/line/instrument inputs with individually switchable 48V phantom power. Two balanced TRS line inputs. Four balanced TRS line outputs. A +19/+4 dBu output level switch on the bottom that protects your monitors and keeps TotalMix faders where they belong: near unity. ADAT optical I/O that expands your system up to 12 inputs and 12 outputs. MIDI I/O via breakout cable.

The two headphone outputs, a 3.5mm TRS (90 mW, 0.1 ohm output impedance) and a 1/4" TRS, each run separate driver stages. Low and high impedance headphones both get what they need, without compromise. This is the kind of detail RME engineers sweat that most manufacturers ignore entirely.

The Clock Is What Separates This From Everything Else

Most interfaces compete on spec sheets. RME competes on engineering. SteadyClock FS (the same circuit used in the ADI-2 Pro FS) operates with femtosecond timing accuracy. What that means in practice: jitter is effectively eliminated. Your mixes have more depth, more image stability, more of what you recorded actually making it through to playback.

The mic preamps hit an SNR of 113.7 dB. Line inputs reach 116 dB RMS (120 dBA). THD on line inputs sits below 0.0008%, improved by 8 dB over the previous generation. Latency clocks in at 5 samples A/D and 7 samples D/A. And all of this runs on USB bus power. No wall wart, no power brick, no extra cable between you and recording. Stable on USB 3, stable on most USB 2 ports, with zero degradation to any specification either way.

Highlights

  • SteadyClock FS femtosecond clocking, same circuit as the ADI-2 Pro FS, eliminates jitter for deeper, more stable mixes
  • Two digitally controlled mic preamps, 76 dB gain range in 1 dB steps, relay-driven PAD, individually switchable 48V phantom power
  • SNR 113.7 dB (mic inputs), 116 dB RMS / 120 dBA (line inputs)
  • THD below 0.0008% on line inputs, an 8 dB improvement over the previous generation
  • Ultra-low latency: 5 samples A/D, 7 samples D/A
  • Headphone amplifier technology carried over directly from the ADI-2 Pro: 90 mW output, 0.1 ohm output impedance, up to 10 dB THD improvement
  • Dual headphone outputs with independent driver stages: 3.5mm TRS and 1/4" TRS run simultaneously, optimized for low and high impedance headphones
  • +19/+4 dBu output level switch for monitor protection and cleaner fader positioning in TotalMix
  • ADAT optical I/O with SMUX support, expands to 12 inputs and 12 outputs
  • MIDI I/O via breakout cable
  • TotalMix FX onboard: fully independent routing and real-time mixing across all physical outputs
  • Bus-powered: stable on USB 3 and most USB 2 ports, no degradation in any spec
  • 24-bit / 192 kHz support
  • K-Slot theft protection built in
  • CNC-machined aluminum chassis, 1.3 lbs / 0.6 kg
  • Made in Germany

Shipping & Returns

  • We deliver all US orders in 3–5 business days
  • Free cancellations
  • Returns accepted within 30 days (unused items)

Order Confirmation

Once your order is placed, you will receive an order confirmation email. This confirms that we have received your order and have pre-authorized your credit card for the purchase. After confirming availability with our suppliers, we will proceed accordingly:

  • If your item is available and ready to ship within 1–2 business days, we will process the charge and arrange for shipment.

  • If your item is on backorder or unavailable, the pre-authorization will be voided and you will be notified by email.

  • Please note: While most items ship out within 1–2 business days, total delivery time is typically 3–5 business days, depending on your location and carrier handling.

Order Shipment

If your item is in stock and your payment has been processed, your order will typically ship within 1–2 business days. Total delivery time is approximately 3–5 business days from the date of order. Once shipped, you will receive tracking information at the email address provided during checkout within 24 hours of dispatch.

If you have not received tracking information within 3–5 business days of placing your order, please contact us at support@proaudioreserve.com.

The Distributor-Direct Advantage

To ensure you receive the most recent hardware revisions and 100% factory-sealed units, Pro Audio Reserve utilizes a Distributor-Direct fulfillment model. Unlike big-box retailers that may ship "floor models" or gear that has been sitting in general-purpose warehouses, your equipment is pulled directly from the primary manufacturer hub, serialized, and dispatched. This process ensures the highest level of quality control for professional-grade recording equipment.

Shipping Policy

We currently offer free shipping within the United States only. If the checkout process on our website allows you to enter a shipping address and complete your order, your location is eligible to receive delivery.

Changing Shipping Address

If you need to change your shipping address after your order has been processed or shipped, we will do our best to accommodate the request. Please note that address changes may result in delivery delays. Any additional costs incurred due to address changes, including carrier fees or rerouting charges will be the responsibility of the customer. No exceptions.

Shipping Times

All shipping times provided are estimates and should not be considered guarantees. Most orders ship out within 1–2 business days from the time payment is processed. However, total delivery time is typically 3–5 business days, depending on your location, carrier performance, and supplier fulfillment timelines.

We work closely with our vendors to ensure timely deliveries, but please note that supply chain disruptions, high-demand periods, or weather events may occasionally cause delays beyond our control.

  • To avoid misunderstandings: The “shipping time” refers to the total time from order placement to final delivery, not just when the item leaves the warehouse.

  • Cancellations: If you choose to cancel your order because it has not arrived within the estimated delivery window, you may be responsible for applicable shipping charges, restocking fees, warehouse handling costs, and other related fees.

  • Chargebacks: Customers who initiate chargebacks due to shipping delays without contacting us first may be held legally responsible for losses. We strongly encourage open communication so we can resolve any delivery concerns directly and efficiently via our Atlanta-based support team.

Delivery Options

  • Threshold Shipping: Your item will be delivered to your front door, porch, garage, or a covered entryway.
